Swollen lymph nodes are usually associated with an underlying bacterial or viral infection. The lymph nodes, also known as lymph glands, play an active role in fighting the infection causing microorganisms. Swelling of the lymph nodes usually occur in the necks, armpits, groins and under the chin. Direct application of essential oils or compress with essential oils can help in reducing the swelling. Essential oils help in stimulating the healthy function of the immune system and assist in draining the toxic substances from the lymph nodes.
The Following Essential Oil Blends Are Known To Help In Reducing Swelling Of The Lymph Nodes
1. Lavender, Tea Tree, Chamomile And Lemon
Prepare an essential oil blend by combining four drops of lavender essential oil, two drops of tea tree oil, one drop of chamomile essential oil and one drop of lemon essential oil. Mix the essential oil blend with one to two cups of cool water. Soak a piece of soft cotton cloth in the water and place it on the swollen lymph node.
2. Rockrose Compress
Rockrose is a plant native to Asia Minor and widely cultivated in the Mediterranean countries. The botanical name for rockrose is Cistus ladaniferus. The essential oil derived through steam distillation of the twigs and leaves of the rockrose plant is known for its astringent and antiseptic properties. It helps in reducing the swollen lymph nodes in the neck. Add few drops of rockrose essential oil to a cup of warm water and with a soft cloth apply warm compress on the affected lymph node.
3. Eucalyptus, Lavender And Tea Tree Oil
To a teaspoon of vegetable oil, add five drops each of eucalyptus essential oil, lavender essential oil and tea tree oil and mix well. Gently rub the oil to the swollen lymph nodes or glands in the neck and groin several times a day, preferably once every hour.
4. Lavender, Bergamot And Tea Tree Oil
A warm compress with a blend of essential oils of lavender, bergamot and tea tree helps in reducing the swelling of the glands. Pour two cups of hot water in a bowl and add two drops each of lavender essential oil and bergamot essential oil and a drop of tea tree oil. Soak a wash cloth in the hot water and place it on the swollen lymph node. Cover it with a towel to trap the heat. Reapply, if desired.
5. Thyme Linalool And Tea Tree Oil
To lukewarm water, add six drops of thyme linalool oil and five drops of tea tree oil. Soak a cloth in the water, wring out the excess water and apply it on the affected gland. Apply twice a day. Alternatively, mix one drop of either of the essential oil with one drop of vegetable oil and apply it to the swollen lymph node.
